Lecture: "Introduction to online tools for genome analysis, data sharing and visualisation"

Practical: "Exploring Microreact, EpiPulse and TESSy"

  • Understand the importance and the usefulness of timely data sharing
  • Understand the purpose and functionalities of TESSy and EpiPulse
  • Describe the anatomy of an EpiPulse event
  • Know how to launch or update an EpiPulse event
  • Use basic functionalities in Microreact, a general-purpose platform for genomic data visualization
  • Query/explore genomic data on EpiPulse using the Molecular typing tool

Details

The participants will learn the importance and usefulness of data sharing through the ECDC platforms. TESSy is currently the main tool that allows ECDC to obtain surveillance data of infectious diseases. The participants will learn the basis of how this system works and how ECDC uses the data to produce outputs such as risk assessments, annual reports and scientific publications. The participants will also learn about EpiPulse, an innovative tool that covers event-based surveillance and where appointed individuals from Member States can discuss, interact and share data on specific public health threats. A brief overview of the Microreact, a general-purpose platform for integrated epidemiological and genomics data visualization, will be provided. Finally, the participants will learn how to use and interact with the Molecular typic tool, an Epipulse module which allows to analyze genomic data provided by the Member States and put them into context.
