9.00 - 9.15

Short talk: “Welcome and introduction by ECDC” 

  • Understand the general Objective of the "GenEpi-BioTrain" programme
  • Understand the context of the current course in this programme (block 1)

9.15 - 10.00

Lecture: “The role of genome sequencing in pathogen surveillance” 


  • Be able to describe the benefits of using genome sequencing in a public health context 

10.10 – 10.30

Short talk: “Overview of course schedule and ILOs” 


  • Understand the scope of the current course, and what they can expect to learn 
  • Understand their own role in achieving the course objectives 

10.30 -11.30

Group work: “Getting to know your fellow participants on the course” 


  • Be able to summarize the name and background of most of their fellow course participants! 

11.30 – 12.00

Intro to laptops (Ubuntu)

  • Be familiar with the most basic functions on Ubuntu (open files, browser window, GUI folder navigation)


Details

 

In the course introductory module, we will spend some time communicating the aims of the current course and building some motivation for the intended learning outcomes. We will also have a session where the participants will get to know each other. Finally, we will introduce the laptops that will be used on the course (which have been prepped with the Linux distribution “Ubuntu”).
