Context

This Exercise was created to explore the response to the emergence of a novel strain of a difficult-to-treat, pandrug-resistant bacterium in a healthcare setting, with the potential threat for a cross-border spread. In June 2017 the Commission adopted the EU One Health Action Plan against AMR. The key objectives of this new plan are built on three main pillars, making the EU a best practice region, boosting research, development and innovation and shaping the global agenda.
Decision 1082/2013/EU on serious cross-border threats to health underlines that, in the event of a serious cross-border threat to health, Member States and the Commission shall consult each other with a view to coordinating their efforts to develop, strengthen and maintain their capacities for the monitoring, early warning and assessment of, and response to, serious cross-border threats to health.
