Context

The exercise was developed and conducted by the Health Protection Agency of the United Kingdom. 

Exercise Black Trapezium was a one-day fuctional exercise designed to test, evaluate and refine the use of the Epidemic Intelligence Information System (EPIS), a communication platform for public health experts. The Food and Waterborne Diseases (FWD) network are the first network on EPIS and members of this network from eight Member States and Norway, were invited by ECDC to participate in the exercise.

The scenario involved the emergence across a number of countries in Europe of an unusual strain of Salmonella which was subsequently linked to a foodstuff.
