Introduction to Infectious Disease Surveillance - e-learning pilot

What is infectious disease surveillance and its goals? How does a surveillance system look like? Why was ECDC established and what roles does ECDC play regarding surveillance for health security? To answer these questions, please explore the different lessons in this 30-minute e-learning course.

The course is designed for any person who is new to surveillance in Europe, including students, decision-makers, communicators, or any citizens with an interest in this topic.

  • Understand the main concepts of infectious diseases surveillance.
  • Identify the main elements of a surveillance system.

  • Understand the role of EpiPulse as a surveillance platform for ECDC and the EU Member States.


This pilot edition runs from 5 to 26 November 2021 with the first 30 volunteers to enrol.
